Shaanti go weekly on Galaxy

Manga SinghAsian club collective, Shaanti, have landed their own weekly show on the UK’s largest commercial dance music radio network, Galaxy.

Launching on October 16, 4-6am and every Sunday from then on, the club’s founder and DJ front-man Manga Singh will be presenting the best of Desi Dance Beats across the airways nationwide.

Manga has been part of the Galaxy weekend line-up since November 2003 when Urban Fusion was first launched. He presented the show every fortnight back to back with RDB but from October 16 he will go weekly with his very own show.

Manga said: “We’re thrilled to be the first Asian club night to be given our very own show in radio history. Shaanti have always been at the forefront of championing new ideas and sounds. W e’re relentless in our pursuit to present the finest talent, an eclectic mix of sounds as well as presenting the baddest names from the universal underground desi dance scene every week to clubbers on their way home. For those who have yet to buy our beats or attended our club nights, this new show will let them see just what they’ve been missing out on!”

Shaanti was launched in 1999 and has grown a small underground movement into an international brand representing the real sound of Desi Dance Beats across the globe. The collective’s efforts were recognised when they received a UK Asian Music Award in 2003 and have since gone on to establish their record label, Shaanti Play Records with plans of their first release ‘Desi Dance Beats Vol 1’ later on this year.

The new weekly show ‘Manga from Shaanti presents…’is the latest addition to the Galaxy Network weekend output which also features Roger Sanchez, Hed Kandi, Steve Sutherland and the best of Trance, Hip Hop and Hard House. More than 2.7 million listeners tune in across the UK every week.

Chrysalis Radio Group Head of Programming, Pete Simmons, said: “Galaxy has always been a leader in bringing new musical genres to radio. Since its launch ‘Urban Fusion’ has been a soaraway success. We hope that Manga presenting his show on a weekly basis will take it to another level.”

‘Manga from Shaanti presents…’is broadcasts every Sunday from October 16, 4–6 am across the Galaxy Network: Galaxy 102 (Manchester), Galaxy 102.2 (Birmingham), Galaxy 105 (Yorkshire) and Galaxy 105-106 (North East).
