Interview with Ominous DJ's

Posted: March 8
Ominous DJ's

For our readers who aren’t familiar with you guys, how about some background info on how you met and formed the group.
Ominous DJs was formed about seven years ago. We all met while on the DJ circuit, while playing out at clubs and parties and it all went from there really.

Where did the name Ominous DJ’s come from?
The name Ominous DJs, basically came from me opening up a dictionary and picking out a name that I liked best, I wanted it to be different something people would remember.

How did you get your first break?
Our first break for production came from Kumar from Heera, who took us into the studio to start the first album where we met Sunil Kalyan and Bee2, these guys really helped us along.

What artists have influenced your own sound?
There are many genres of music that we listen to as a group. Being four of us, we all have different tastes and we have tried to incorporate all four tastes in our music. On the asian circuit, would have to be Dr Zeus, Bally Sagoo and a lot of production that comes from India with the tradional feel.

What did you do differently on this album compared to “Best Kept Secret”?
Best Kept Secret was our first album, while we were in the process of doing that album we were learning a lot. When we started the second album, we were more clued up and had learnt a lot along the way and hopefully you can see the difference in knowledge showing in the second album compared to the first.

The video for the “Unfinished Business Medley” is one of my favorite videos, where did the idea for an animated video come from?
Glad your liking it, we had always wanted to do an animated video. Being different is the key to getting noticed. We sat down with our design team x1xfilmanddesign.co.uk and developed the concept. The video took four months to complete and it speaks for itself, the rest is history as they say.

You guys have some big name singers like Kuldip Manak and Lemhber Hussainpuri on this release. How did they get on aboard this album?
Lehmber was introduced to us through Dr Zeus, who was more then willing to sing for us once he heard our ideas and concepts. We then approached Daljit Mattu and he also agreed. After this time it was all about getting them into the studio and getting good vocals

What other singers would you like to work with on your next release?
We have not yet decided on who we should have on the next album, but our aim is to please, so if there is anyone the readers would like to see on the next album just email me info@ominousdjs.net and we will do our best to get those vocalists.

What do you have planned after you’re done promoting this album? Start work on your next one? Tour? Or relax for awhile?
Promotion is the primary objective at this moment in time, but at the same time we are playing out. We have some tour dates planned so keep a look out. After the album promotion is complete we will most likely be on the road gigging. Check out www.tourdatesonline.com to see where we will be playing next.

Bhangra Omega will like to thank Ominous DJs for the interview. Don't forget to checkout ominousdjs.net and 4playrecordings.co.uk
