We are a group of Dj’s from Calgary, Vancouver, and New jersey. Our aim is to release a mix tape of original desi music from the UK, Canada, and the US. We are based out of Canada.

sets us apart from other Desi style DJ mixes and mix tapes is the fact that our mix tape has no remixes! Our aim is to provide people around the world with original, unadulterated desi music. There are already a lot of Desi remixes out there and wanted to bring something unique. We want to show the world that desi’s are indeed a creative force to be reckoned with, within the music industry. We know that many South Asian artists have been making cutting edge music for years, and we want to be able to bring that to the mainstream (or at least a wider audience) with our mix tape compilation. “Urban Desi volume 1 focuses on original Desi made Hip-Hop and R&B. intend to have the best and most cutting edge mix tape compilation available. For a lot of South Asian’s it hard for them to keep track of original music, we intend to make it a little easier by releasing this mix tape. Everyone knows of Punjabi MC, but does everybody know about Pacifik from Toronto? Or Kat Eyez? We want to expose the South Asian community with talent that deserves to be shown and exposed.

mix tape compilation entitled “Urban Desi Volume 1” will be released August 31st. We took in submissions until July 10th and we place all chosen tracks for free on our cd. We do offer the option for the artist’s to display their contact info for a fee of $25, but it is definitely NOT required. Our cd sells for 9.99 US. We believe this is a reasonable price since shipping is free, and after the packaging and marketing costs; most of the money left over goes to advertising and then to our Dj’s who have worked hard on finding and getting the latest acts to be on our mix tape. We also offer free shipping to the UK, The US and Canada!

Inspiration...

for this idea came after some New Jersey based Dj’s put together an R&B compilation of 2 local R&B desi groups. It was sold to students at Rutgers University, in Newark, New Jersey. It was done on a basic word of mouth level through the university, but it sold none the less and we know that even non-South Asians people do indeed want to hear desi music! So we thought, hey we can make a definite compilation of cutting edge South Asian’s and then people can decide on their favorite artists!
